Although my daughter is a bit young for a few of these activities she did inspire me with her love of strawberries. I thought this would be a fun way to explore her favorite food!

One of my daughter’s favorite things to do is get outdoors and get dirty. To encourage her love of dirt we decided to let her do some gardening. Because one of her favorite things to eat is strawberries we thought we would let her help grow some! I thought I would share with you some of the other Montessori Inspired Strawberry Activities we did too.

What you need:

Montessori Activity #1

Our strawberries are only just sprouting and they probably won’t be ready for awhile but to help understand how plants grow we went over the Life Cycle of a Strawberry. Now to be quite honest, I’m not sure how much my daughter (20 months old) understood, but she knew we were planting strawberries after we talked all about them. And she is very excited about it! Checking on them and watering them every day to continue the process.

Life cycle of a strawberry

With this Life Cycle of a Strawberry activity, you simply cut out the stages of a strawberry plant and put them in order of occurrence on the life cycle board. I suggest using a thicker stock paper to print the board and matching cards on as they will last longer.

It is a bit of a puzzle for them and when your child is ready to learn about the order of life cycles this will be a great tool to help them. If your child is not ready to recognize a life cycle you can use the example and just show them the pictures and discuss it. Never push your child if they are not interested.

Montessori Activity #2

With this activity, you will be able to do some counting. I like to lay out the numbers and count the strawberry cards to match the number. Since my daughter is still young we are focusing on number recognition when doing this activity rather than actually counting.

Sometimes we only use numbers 0-3 and other days we try more depending on my child’s interest. It is always important to remember to follow your child’s lead and work on things that interest them at the time rather than forcing them to continue with an activity that may not be suited for them.

Bonus Strawberry Activity

I have included a strawberry coloring sheet in this pack because at the moment my daughter is big into coloring. I don’t think that is something that most kids get tired of so use this as you would like. Using the strawberry stickers to count or decorate the coloring sheet is another fun thing toddler’s love!

Which fruits and vegetables does your toddler want to learn more about? Let me know in the comments!
