HOW TO START A BLOG AND PROFIT FROM YOUR PASSION: PART 1

Cup of Tea

This week I am keeping with the work at home theme and talking about something that I am very passionate about, This Toddler Life. I want to show you how to start a blog and profit from your passion. I’ve broken this post up into 2 parts, so you can catch Part 2 right here.

I am a stay at home mom who lives for the 7 o’clock bedtime. That 2 hours after my toddler goes to bed and when I go to bed. That is my happy time. That is the only chance I get to have any “me time”.

If I am being real with you, I struggled quite a bit when I first became a mother. It wasn’t really until my daughter was about 1 that I finally got the hang of things. My life had changed so drastically, I didn’t even know who I was.

Like many new mothers, I had lost my sense of self. Not in a bad “cry myself to bed every night” type of way, just an “I never leave the house and I’m going to pull my hair out” kind of way. You know, normal stuff…right?

To make matters worse, we decided to move to a new country which meant no family or friends nearby. Don’t get me wrong I was and still am happy to be living in Australia it can just be tough moving to a new town when you are a mother. I’m sure you know what I am talking about here.

A couple months after our move I told my husband I thought I could start a blog. I thought I could do that, why not? It seemed interesting and I might even be able to make some money from it.

Let me just stop and tell you right there that was the best decision I could have made for myself that night. To actually purchase a website and start blogging.

I never even knew I was a writer, I just know that I have absolutely, 100%, no doubt about it, found my passion. Now, I have drive, vision, goals and on top of all those awesome things, I have time to spend with my daughter.

Starting a blog was just what I needed in all aspects of my life. It makes me happier to be working on something I am so proud of. I’ve now got loads of new blogging buddies (Hi guys!), goals that pertain to the world outside of my family and I’ve found myself my “me time”.

That last one is why I am writing this article. I want every mom out there to be able to find some me time or something they are passionate about. We usually all have one or two things that we are passionate about but blogging allows you to talk about those passions all the time!

There are several things I did before and after starting my blog that helped me get to where I am today. I just want to point out the first few things that have really skyrocketed me to the success that I am today.

Write 5 blog posts

Before you even get into how to start a blog and all the fundamentals that go along with it, write 5 blog posts. Think about what you are passionate about and write 5 articles. This helped me to realize that I actually do like writing. I set out to write 5 and wrote 9 or 10. I couldn’t stop myself, I enjoyed it so much. If you are the same you will probably love blogging as well!

Check your finances

If you are not looking to spend any money there are several free blogging sites you can blog on. If you are looking to have a profitable blog you will need to be willing to spend a bit in the beginning. I think my startup cost was around $150. You can get by on that for quite awhile actually, there are a lot of free services out there for the small blogger. Once you start getting bigger you will have to start forking the dough out again but hopefully, by that time you will have started raking in the cash. 🙂

Take a course

I was about one month in before I blew a gasket on information overload. There is so much to learn when starting a blog you really need someone to help you manage it. I, by some miracle, found Krista and her online course Profit From Your Passion and my life has never been the same (or my blog life at least). Truly, I do credit this one act, purchasing this course, to all my blog breakthroughs including my first big paycheck! Click on the image below to see what I am talking about.

How to start a blog and profit from your passion.

I want every mama to have that feeling of finding their passion like I have. Isn’t that what life is all about, finding ourselves and the mission we are on. I am and always will be a mom first but now I have something for me that is just mine and no one can take that away from me.

Next week in Part 2 of this article I will dive deeper into how to start a blog and what you should do to build a profit from your passion.

Have you considered starting a blog? Let me know in the comments I would love to hear all about your journey to find your passion!
